Colleges in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, a medical school is known as a medical college. Allopathic and Alternative Medicine related medical education at the graduate level is provided by medical colleges. The colleges are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW), and are affiliated with a university on the respective region. They however have to be recognized after meeting a set criterion by a central regulatory authority called Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC). 1986, all the medical colleges were established by the government. Since then, several private medical colleges have been set up. There are total 83 recognized medical colleges in Bangladesh, 29 of which are public and 54 private. Apart from these, there are six medical colleges which are run by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and are under the Ministry of Defence. All the medical colleges award the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Master of Surgery(MS) is awarded as a postgraduate research degree in selected medical colleges and universities, following the medical tradition of Commonwealth countries. As per the declaration of overseas registration of the General Medical Council, the awarded MBBS degree from some of the institutions is eligible to apply for registration in United Kingdom.
Enam Medical College & Hospital
Enam Medical College is one of the A Grade Private Medical College in Bangladesh situated at Savar which is very nearer to Dhaka city. The Doctor‑ patient ratio is still far from adequate in this country of more than 160 million people. Along with the Government initiative Private entrepreneurs are also coming forward in the health sector to establish Medical Colleges including Hospitals. The private sector has already made commendable progress in this field. The Government of Bangladesh has rightly laid down some strict criteria. principles and guidelines to follow and standardize the Private Medical colleges.
Enam Medical College was established in 2003, fulfilling all the guidelines and criteria set up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council and University of Dhaka. The government has been pleased to give permission for admission of 50 students In first year MBBS course from the session 2003‑2004 Now the admission capacity Is 155 from last session. The College has also been affiliated with University of Dhaka and also recognized by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). Addin Women’s Medical College
Ad-din Women’s Medical College (AWMC) is a private medical school in Bangladesh, exclusively for female students, established in 2008. It is located in Maghbazar, Dhaka. It is affiliated with Dhaka University as a constituent college.
It offers a five-year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. A one-year internshipafter graduation is compulsory for all graduates. The degree is recognised by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
Ad-din is a no- profit medical institution established in the year 1980 with the aim of imparting knowledge and medical services to the people of Bangladesh.
Ad-din Women’s Medical College Hospital Dhaka is one of the most famous non-government medical colleges in Bangladesh. The Health Ministry of Bangladesh affiliates with the University of Dhaka. It ensures high-quality hospital and community-based health care and educational services at very affordable price considering the ability of the needy people. It also provides various scholarship and waiver facilities to the poor students. The college involves in numerous training, research and publication activities. Academics
The college offers a five-year course of study, approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Dhaka University. After passing the final professional examination, there is a compulsory one-year internship. The internship is a prerequisite for obtaining registration from the BMDC to practice medicine.[5][8] In October 2014, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare capped admission and tuition fees at private medical colleges at 1,990,000Bangladeshi taka (US$25,750 as of 2014) total for their five-year courses
The college admits only female students.[10] Admission for Bangladeshis to the MBBS programmes at all medical colleges in Bangladesh (government and private) is conducted centrally by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). It administers a written multiple choice question exam simultaneously throughout the country. Candidates are admitted based primarily on their score on this test, although grades at Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) level also play a part. Seats are reserved for daughters of Freedom Fighters, and 5% of seats are reserved for students from underprivileged backgrounds. As of July 2014, the college is allowed to admit 75 students annually.

Tairunessa Memorial Medical College
Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College (TMMC)is a private medical school inBangladesh, established in 1995. It is an institution of the Tairunnessa Memorial Medical Centre. It was founded by M. Shamsul Hoque, named after his mother, the late Tairunnessa, a social reformer. There is a girls’ school in her name in Balaganj as well.
It offers a five-year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. A one-year internshipafter graduation is compulsory for all graduates. The degree is recognised by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
M Shamsul Hoque was born in January 1943 in Hamidpur of Rajnagar Upazila in Moulovibazar which was then part of greaterSylhet. He helped the religious minorities to flee the country with a small ship he owned. As a result, he was wanted by the Pakistani army in 1971. He established a School named Tairunnessa Girls’ High School in Balaganj in 1977.
Tairunnessa Memorial Medical Center started as a small outpatient department at Konya, Gazipur District in 1995 which over the years has turned into a hospital and research center; TMMC Hospital, a 500-bed hospital complex, a 9 storied college building and an administrative block, a ladies’ hostel. It is now one of the renowned Medical colleges in Dhaka with all departments.
Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools,2] published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and now maintained as the Avicenna Directory for Medicine and also listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). IMED (International Medical Education Directory) recognition allow TMMC medical students/ graduates to apply for USMLE examination by ECFMG,[4] USA for employment and for post-graduate training in the United States and Canada as well as can apply for PLAB,[5] AMC[6] and NZREX[7] examinations etc. Also Graduates of TMMC are eligible for limited registration with the General Medical Council of United Kingdom.
A Nursing institute was formed in 2008, awarding a B.S.C nursing degree.] This became a unit of Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College in 2013.
The TMMC has around 600 students, including students from Nepal and India. The hospital has expanded to 500-beds, and provides a 24-hour emergency service, with additional trauma center, EPI etc. 255 MBBS doctors have passed till 2014 December.

International Medical College
Introduction
International Medical College (IMC) was established in the year 2000 after completing all procedural formalities and after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. International Medical College started with 20 students in the academic session 1999-2000. Since then the number of students progressively increased every year.
Location
The International Medical College & Hospital is located at the outskirts of the commercial township of Tongi and is about 22 km away from the city centre of Dhaka. The major bus stands/terminals, railway station and Shahjalal International Airport are within maximum distance of 30 minutes.
The Campus
The campus stands in a solitary environment amidst green vegetation, spaced villages and large water bodies. One takes a walk around the campus to take fresh breath while enjoying the panorama and picturesque that the site offers. Everything combines and converges here to make it a perfect place for learning.
The present campus of the College has an area of about 9 acres of land. The college and all preclinical and para-clinical departments are located in the academic building. The Classrooms, Dissection hall, Laboratories, Museum, Library and other facilities are well and suitably arranged in various floors of the Academic Building.
International Medical College Hospital (IMCH) is the academic hospital of the College. It is a 600 bedded multidisciplinary Hospital Complex which is located in the proximity to the College building.
Hostel
IMC always gives preference to students’ affairs on priority basis. Since we believe that a tranquil, soothing lodging is an inevitable necessity especially for medical students, we have arranged well furnished accommodations for male and female students in two separate hostels. Three storied Boys’ Hostel is located on the bank of the lake inside the campus. The newly built three-storied Girls’ Hostel is situated beside College building. Three are separate blocks for foreign male and female students. Both the hostels are adequately furnished with articles needed for everyday living and entertainment . Well trained cooks for both local and foreign students are provided by the College for both the hostels.
Transport Facilities
Students not residing in the hostels are provided with pick up and drop off from certain points in the city. A special transport facility is provided twice a month to the students residing in the hostels to go to the city for shopping or other related activities.
Faculty
Academic Faculty of the college consists of about 104 members comprising of a distinguished academicians with proven teaching and research excellence. Each department and discipline is headed by a professor/associate professor who leads his team to conduct the courses and prepare the students to become future doctors.
Academic activities
International Medical College & Hospital now in its 14th year continues to pursue excellence by implementing BM&DC approved new MBBS curricula utilizing effective instructional methods and media, providing motivational environment, continuously monitoring and rigorously evaluating all teaching-learning activities. To keep students abreast with update knowledge there is arrangement of seminars/workshops on different Medical topics from time to time.
We arrange field visit for students in different institutes of public health importance to acquire practical knowledge about health problems. Residential Field Site Trainings (RFST) are also included in the programme. Students of 3rd and 4th years are sent to Dhaka Medical College for 10 consecutive days for autopsy training.
Students of first batch (IMC-1) started their clinical course and training at IMCH from the year 2002 and all the following batches are completing their 40 weeks of ward duties (16 weeks in Medicine, 16 weeks in General Surgery and 4 weeks each in Pediatrics and Orthopedics & Traumatology) as per BMDC rules.
Students are placed in ward duties as per roaster suggested in the BM&DC Curriculum. More than 500 patients are attending outpatient department (OPD) daily on payment of nominal amount and on weekly free treatment days the figured registered is more than 650, beside patients with diabates, endocrine disorders and other raer diseases.
Outpatient services are in-built with the in-patient services of other departments like medicine, gastroenterology, orthopedics, urology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, obstetrics & gynaecology, physiotherapy and dentistry, The in-patient departments have a total of 500 beds of which about 20 (number is flexible) are free.
